ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO 4
Module Coordinator : Mr. Nazim
Tutor : Mr. Kenny
During Semester 4, the studio focuses on sustainable design by studying precedent projects and exploring how architectural elements can harmoniously respond to environmental conditions and the needs of a specific community, aiming to create a sense of community within the complex spatial typology.
Project 1A : Site Analysis & Design Response
The Site Analysis & Design Response involves understanding the context for intervention, wherein students will visit the site in assigned tutorial groups to identify both physical and intangible qualities that define its character. By engaging with site users, they will ascertain the community's needs, and as part of the Design Response, they will collaborate on a Kebun Komuniti Plan, serving as the foundation for Project 1B: Architectural Allotment and Project 2: P3KU Kebun Komuniti Center.
Project 1B : Design Esquisse – Architectural Allotment
Project 1B runs concurrently with Project 1A and focuses on comprehending the significance of materials concerning user experience in the Kebun Komuniti Plan. Working within the context of their respective tutorial groups' Kebun Komuniti Plans, students will divide into smaller groups (3-4 students) to design an Architectural Allotment. This allotment will serve as a representation of architectural form based on the chosen materials and will be designed to accommodate activities associated with plant cultivation. The themes explored will revolve around plant cultivation, along with the incorporation of seating, shading, and storage elements, all of which will align with the programmatic requirements of Project 2.
Project 2: P3KU Kebun Komuniti Center
The task is to design a P3KU Kebun Komuniti Center in the suburban neighborhood of USJ18, which is currently occupied by a non-profit project for employing disabled teenagers. Students must create comprehensive design proposals that incorporate insights from site analysis and precedent studies. Their narratives should be responsive to the environment and community within the given context, exploring the environmental impact-reducing aspects of building enclosure design through various complex spatial organizational typologies and a range of passive sustainable strategies. The ultimate aim is for the design to seamlessly integrate with the environment and site, providing exceptional spatial experiences that foster a strong sense of community.

Reflection
In AD4, firstly I definitely opened my eyes to master plan, this is our first time doing this and we were kind of struggling for a bit at first but thankfully everything turned out quite well after that, and we learned a lot about Mandala Garden since it is part of our concept for master plan design. After that I also learned a lot about the plants species while doing P1A and P1B as both has a lot of plants interfering so we sort of have to read about the plants' life cycle, how to nurture it and also what conditions are needed. As for P2 which is most challenging for me, I would say I pushed myself to learn a lot of new softwares such as illustrator and enscape, I had fun during the learning process as I gained a lot in return. Besides, I also learned a lot about the different kinds of disability, since the P3KU community is to help special teens to work. By leaning about the disability, I also learned what kinds of universal design are suitable for specific disable bodies and also how to apply it. It is the most important for me as it is part of my concept as well. In short I learned a lot form my friends, turors and lecturers, hope all of those will help me grow in the future.
